Mayfield Clinic & Spine Institute - Cincinnati, OHIn October 2001, Mayfield Clinic & Spine Institute faced several challenges. Wait times from initial patient referral to physician appointment often extended beyond 30 days. Many patients attended their initial appointment without attempting conservative treatment or completing appropriate testing. Only 22% of all patients who did see a spine surgeon actually required spine surgery. These issues impacted surgeon efficiency, referrer and patient satisfaction, and organizational profitability. For these reasons, Mayfield Clinic surgeons and its management team developed a new approach to spine care. Soon after, Mayfield began sharing its system with other spine surgery practices and hospital-based spine centers. The result of that sharing, is the Priority Consult product that is available to providers today.
